Liverpool may have already made a decision on Arne Slot’s future as manager after their 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
On Wednesday evening, Liverpool travelled to the Parc des Princes for a Champions League quarter-final match that could define their season.
After being eliminated from the FA Cup after a heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester City, the pressure on coach Slot was greater than ever before the challenge with PSG.
However, the Dutchman failed to relieve the pressure in Paris as his side were beaten 2-0 by the reigning European champions, leaving Liverpool with a tough task ahead of the return leg at Anfield next week.
However, ahead of the return leg it appears Liverpool may have already made the decision to sack Slot, with reports suggesting his position is becoming increasingly uncertain.
According to The Athletic , Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, want to give Slot the chance to improve on a poor season in which the club has already lost 17 games, more than any season since 2014/15.
However, the report adds that to keep his place, it now all depends on the Champions League, leaving the Dutch coach with just 90 minutes in the next match to save his job.
“We should be lucky we only lost 2-0”, Arne Slot reacts to PSG defeat
Before the match, Slot dodged questions about the pressure over his future, noting that Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are among the toughest teams to face in the world at the moment:
“As a coach, I don’t think about what could happen, and if that increases the pressure, whether on me or on someone else.”
“I think we are here because, and what is similar between Man City and PSG, is that for me, from an open game, they are the most difficult teams to face,” the Dutchman said.
