Midfielder James Rodriguez has revealed for the first time that before joining Bayern Munich, he was close to joining Manchester United.
Rodriguez excelled for a few years at Real Madrid, but then lost his starting spot and changed teams to join the German giants.
However, in a recent interview – the number 10 explained how Carlo Ancelotti convinced him to turn down Man United for Bayern.
“Nobody knows this, but after Real Madrid I would go to Manchester United.”
“Jorge Mendes asked me ‘Will you play for Bayern?’ and I said ‘Where will he play? Ribery, Robben…’ He said ‘Carlo has asked for you.'”
“Carlo calls me and I say, ‘I’m going to Man United.’ He says, ‘Please, to Manchester? United is dead. You have to come here to me,'” he recalled.
Rodriguez is currently without a club and has not been invited to the World Cup.
