Jorge Valdano, Real Madrid player from 1984 to 1987 and coach of Los Blancos from 1994 to 1996, put the supposed candidates for the team’s bench next season under his analytical microscope.
The 70-year-old former footballer and manager spoke on Movistar Plus+ Deportes about Jose Mourinho, Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp, Lionel Scaloni and Didier Deschamps.
What the man from Las Parejas is clear about is that “Mourinho is already a closed chapter at the club and I don’t think he will return.”
Scaloni and Mourinho are seen as Florentino Perez’s favourites to become Real Madrid’s new coach
Valdano stressed that “Pochettino is a coach who has twice come very close to Real Madrid. And when this happens, it is because it is clear that he is a very attractive type of coach for the club.”
Regarding the Frenchman Deschamps, the current coach of the French national team, he stressed that “we are talking about a coach who is a world champion and could be a good choice for Real Madrid. We must remember that they have players like Tchouameni, Camavinga and Mbappe, and he is a coach who knows them and has managed them well.”
Valdano rules out Klopp and Scaloni as candidates for Real Madrid bench
Jorge Valdano believes Real Madrid would not seek out Jurgen Klopp, Red Bull’s Global Director of Football, even if the German were to offer his services.
Florentino Perez likes it, Real Madrid contacts the famous coach
“Klopp needs a year to build a team. He needs that year to reach the physical intensity necessary for his style of play to take shape. And I find it hard to imagine that at a club like Real Madrid he can have that year because results are needed first.”
Regarding Scaloni, he believes that “he is a world champion and no one doubts his quality, but Scaloni has no experience at club level. It is dangerous to think that Real Madrid will be his first experience at club level and I don’t know if it would be a good move.”
