Cristiano Ronaldo was looking all summer for a club where he would leave Manchester United and with whom he would play in the Champions League. Among others, Atlético Madrid was mentioned. However, the transfer did not materialize and the 37-year-old Portuguese remained in the English Premier League. In an interview with Tigo Sport, Atletico coach Diego Simeone talked about the rumors about Ronaldo’s arrival.
“One bird told me that there is a temptation to bring Ronaldo, and another told me that the talks have started,” said Argentine journalist Martin Lieberman.
Simeone replied: “The birds told you something that is far from the truth. People say what they want, not what is happening. Ronaldo is a legend of Real Madrid. I don’t see Martin Palermo playing at River Plata or Juan Roman Riquelme or Martin Ortega at Boca Juniors. The situation is quite clear.”
Simeone, therefore, believes that Ronaldo’s arrival at Atlético is not possible. On the other hand, he is aware of its quality. “What I told Luis Suarez about is happening to him. I told him that he will continue to score goals because it is in his nature. I have no doubt that Ronaldo will score again, it is impossible for him to leave when he is as mentally strong as he has always been. He will show what kind of striker he is,” Simeone believes.
