The Spanish national football team coach, Luis de la Fuente, has stressed that Lamine Yamal will be ready for the first match of the World Cup.
Yamal missed the end of the club season due to a thigh injury, but De la Fuente included him in the national team, saying he will be ready for the championship.
“If everything remains as it is, Lamine should be ready for the match on June 15, but that does not guarantee that he will play. We will assess the situation in due course.”
“We are fully coordinated with the clubs, we are giving them instructions and they are improving every day,” the Spanish coach said in a press conference.
Nico Williams and Mikel Merino are also out due to injuries and will not be available for Thursday’s friendly against Iraq in La Coruña.
Spain opens its campaign in Atlanta on June 15 against Cape Verde, then faces Saudi Arabia in the same city on June 21. Their third match against Uruguay will be played in Guadalajara, Mexico, on June 27.
