Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, who marked an era in the world of tennis, announced today that he is ending his playing career.
Federer, who has 20 Grand Slam titles, is one of the best, and for many, the best tennis player of all time. He is still the highest paid tennis player according to earnings from sponsors, he holds the record for the number of weeks in a row in which he was first on the ATP list, and he is also the record holder for the number of aces served.
The last tournament he will appear in is the Laver Cup in London next week.
“The past three years have been a huge challenge for me when it comes to injuries and surgeries. I’ve been working hard to get back in shape, but I know what my body is capable of and the message was crystal clear. I’m 41 years old, I’ve played more than 1,500 matches in 24 years, tennis has given me treatment I never dreamed of. The Laver Cup will be my last ATP event. I will stay in tennis, but you won’t see me on the courts playing. Tennis, I love you, I will never leave you” – Federer said, among other things, in the video message to his fans.
