Michael Carrick has been appointed Middlesbrough manager. The former Manchester United midfielder replaces Chris Wilder, who was sacked on October 3 after five defeats in his first 11 Championship games.
Carrick will join Jonathan Woodgate as first team coach. Boro chairman Steve Gibson says Carrick is the “perfect choice” for the club, who are just one point above the Championship relegation zone:
“We had identified a number of potentials and were impressed by all of them, but Michael was the outstanding candidate. Michael has the same values as the club and we are very connected with our ambitions”.
Carrick has worked for several years in United’s technical staff, where after Solskjaer’s dismissal he stayed for a while as interim first team coach.
