American actor Peter Greene, best known for his roles in the cult films The Mask and Pulp Fiction, was found dead in his apartment in New York City. He was 60 years old.
According to police, officers responded to a call at Greene’s residence in the Lower East Side on Tuesday at approximately 3:25 p.m., where they discovered the actor unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The news of Greene’s death was confirmed by his longtime manager, Gregg Edwards, who worked with the actor for more than a decade. Authorities have stated that there are no signs of foul play, and the exact cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.
Edwards described Greene as an extraordinary person and actor, noting that behind the tough and often dark characters he portrayed on screen was a man with a big heart. “He will be deeply missed, both as a friend and as an artist,” Edwards said.
According to media reports, neighbors alerted authorities after hearing music coming from Greene’s apartment for more than 24 hours, prompting a welfare check. Edwards also revealed that he had spoken with Greene earlier in the week and noticed no indication that anything was wrong.
Greene was actively involved in upcoming projects. He was scheduled to begin filming the independent thriller Mascots in January, alongside Mickey Rourke. He had also been attached to the crime drama State of Confusion, planned to shoot in New Jersey and New York in the fall of 2026.
Greene was widely known for playing villainous roles, most notably gangster Dorian Tyrell in The Mask opposite Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz. Another of his most memorable performances was as Zed, the brutal security guard in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 classic Pulp Fiction.
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Greene experienced a difficult youth. As a teenager, he left home and lived on the streets of New York City. He later spoke openly about his struggles with addiction and the challenges he faced early in life. Greene did not begin acting until his mid-twenties, but went on to achieve notable success throughout the 1990s.
Over a career spanning more than three decades, Peter Greene appeared in nearly 95 film and television projects, including The Usual Suspects, Blue Streak, Training Day, Clean, Shaven, and many others.
