This is brutally honest, humiliating for Maguire, but true nonetheless!

United’s new coach, Eric Ten Haag, who today won with his team at Southampton (0:1), explained Harry Maguire’s new role.

Maguire was in the starting line-up for the first two matches of the season, in which United recorded two defeats, against Brighton and Brentford, to sit on the bench in the derby.

“It is good when there is competition, it is always needed. We have to cover more matches and we can do that in several variants. Maguire? If you’re a captain, you don’t know that you have to play regularly, especially when Varane is in the team,” Eric Ten Haag explained to the BBC.

Maguire became the most expensive defender in Premier League history when he joined Manchester United from Leicester in the summer of 2019.

But he has often disappointed fans with reckless, childish and amateurish moves, and it seems he is paying the price for that with the new coach, who is clearly looking for the best duo in Martinez and Varane.
