The football team of Morocco made a new sensation! The African selection again took a scalp from the Pyrenees, this time against Portugal (1-0) and secured a historic place among the top four at the World Championship (WC) being played in Qatar.
The Atlas Lions once again excelled and took advantage of the chance they were given to score in the match. The Moroccans beat Costa once and thus left Cristiano Ronaldo without a World Cup title. Morocco is the second team that will play in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, and it does not come from Europe or South America. The country joined the United States (1930) and South Korea (2002). This was Portugal’s first elimination in the quarterfinals, and Morocco became the first selection from Africa at this stage.
The only goal of the match in Qatar was scored by striker Yusuf El Neziri, who before the end of the first half, in the 42nd minute, performed a sky jump and nailed the ball into the net of the Portuguese team with his head. Portugal then tried to do everything to get back into the match, but could not find a solution for goalkeeper Bono, who defended superbly. The red card that Chedira got in the 93rd minute didn’t help either, as did the entry of the best player Cristiano Ronaldo, who twice missed an opportunity to equalize.
The Moroccans are waiting for the rival in the semi-finals of the World Cup 2022, which will be England or France. In the second semi-final pair, Argentina and Croatia will face each other.
