Scream 7 has delivered the biggest opening weekend in the history of the legendary horror franchise, earning an impressive 97.2 million dollars worldwide.
The seventh chapter of the iconic series generated 64.1 million dollars domestically and an additional 33.1 million dollars across international markets. These numbers mark the largest global, international, and North American opening in the franchise’s history since the original film debuted in 1996.
The new installment follows a terrifying new Ghostface killer who targets the daughter of the saga’s legendary heroine Sidney Prescott, once again played by Neve Campbell.
Campbell’s return to the series has been one of the biggest talking points surrounding the film. The actress had previously stepped away from Scream 6 due to a salary dispute, making her comeback in the new installment even more significant for longtime fans.
The film also taps into nostalgia with appearances from familiar faces including Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Matthew Lillard, alongside rising star Isabel May.
Spyglass Media Group chairman and CEO Gary Barber praised the film’s record breaking performance in a statement to Variety.
“This historic box office success is a testament to the enduring legacy created by our director Kevin Williamson 30 years ago, led by the incomparable Neve Campbell, rising star Isabel May, the franchise mainstay Courteney Cox, and the entire cast,” Barber said.
He also thanked audiences around the world who rushed to theaters for another intense Ghostface experience.
With such a powerful opening weekend, Scream 7 has proven that the franchise remains one of the most resilient and beloved horror series in cinema history.
