Bebe Rexha has shared the deeply personal story behind her latest song “New Religion,” revealing that it was written during one of the darkest moments of her life.

The singer described the track as a powerful tribute to music and the role it has played in helping her overcome emotional struggles. “New Religion” is part of her upcoming album Dirty Blonde, which marks a new creative era in her career.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Rexha admitted that she was in a difficult mental and emotional state when she began working on the project.

“When I started this new era, I was in a really dark place,” she explained. “I was frustrated, angry and very hopeless. I felt like I was trapped in a cage and no matter how loudly I screamed, I couldn’t get out.”

The Grammy nominated artist said that during that time she turned back to the one thing that had always helped her reconnect with herself: music.

“So I went back to the one thing that has always made me feel something: dance music,” she said. “When the bass hits your chest and you lose yourself in the music, nothing else matters. That’s when I started to feel free again.”

Rexha described “New Religion” as a deeply emotional project that reflects her personal connection to music.

“‘New Religion’ is my love letter to music. It’s my shelter and my escape on the dance floor,” she said, adding that music has been there for her “in every high and every low.”

The track also includes a sample from the iconic dance song “Insomnia” by the legendary group Faithless, a detail Rexha says made the project even more meaningful for her.

“New Religion” is one of the singles from Rexha’s upcoming visual album Dirty Blonde, which will feature 13 songs, each accompanied by its own music video.

With the new project, Rexha says she is embracing a more authentic and fearless phase of her career, using music not only as entertainment but also as a form of emotional healing.
