“I Wanted to Kill Him” – Guardiola Reveals Conversation With Reijnders

News

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was seen in an animated exchange with Tijjani Reijnders during the 2-1 win over Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final, held at Wembley Stadium.

Reijnders was one of eight changes to the starting line-up from the midweek clash at Burnley, as City overturned the deficit to secure their sixth successive win in all competitions.

After the match, Guardiola humorously explained the tense moment with the midfielder: “I said I wanted to kill him because of how well he played, that’s what I said,” Pep said, laughing.

He added that he was pleased with the Dutch player’s performance.

“Tijjani is another player who hasn’t played in the last few games and he played very well. Mateo Kovacic too. He had a very good game, but at 1-1 I wanted a more positional player.”

The victory takes Manchester City closer to another trophy, as Guardiola continues to rotate and experiment with the team in the crucial phase of the season.
