According to ESPN, Neymar is now in serious contention to be included in Brazil’s roster for the 2026 World Cup.
The Santos striker was previously seen as almost certain to be out, but the recent series of matches and his good physical condition are said to have changed the situation within the Brazilian Football Federation.
Since the last FIFA break, Neymar has played nine matches and started nine of Santos’ last 12 matches, which has convinced some members of the technical staff that he can still handle a busy schedule.
However, coach Carlo Ancelotti is reported to have not yet made a final decision and is expected to wait until the last moments before announcing the 26-man squad next Monday.
ESPN adds that Neymar’s possible inclusion could leave out several big names, with Chelsea striker Joao Pedro among those at risk of missing the tournament.
Also, midfielder Andrey Santos has reportedly lost “momentum” in the race for selection, while strikers Endrick and Igor Thiago have increased their chances in recent weeks.
Brazil’s expected options in attack currently include Vinicius, Raphinha, Matheus Cunha, Gabriel Martinelli and Luiz Henrique, while Neymar is now firmly back in the discussion.
