Real Madrid and Brazil star Vinicius Junior has admitted that Lionel Messi’s presence makes Argentina one of the favourites to win the World Cup, which takes place this summer.
The Selecao winger believes Messi’s unpredictability could give their arch-rivals a key advantage in their bid to defend their world title with America, Canada and Mexico.
Despite the fierce rivalry between the two South American football giants, Vinicius acknowledged the strength of the team led by coach Lionel Scaloni, who will try to defend their title.

“I would also put Argentina among the favorites for the World Cup because they are the current champions, they have great confidence and they have Messi,” Vinicius initially told CazeTV.
Although Argentina boasts a well-coordinated team, Vinicius had special praise for their legendary captain. Even at 38, Messi remains the most dangerous player in the world in the eyes of his opponents.
The Brazilian highlighted how difficult it is to prepare for a player who can turn the game around in an instant with a move that no defender can predict.
Speaking about the challenge of facing the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, Vinicius added: “He always brings something different, we never imagine what he can do.”
