France Star Doubtful for World Cup After Back Injury

News

Arsenal defender William Saliba is a major doubt for the 2026 World Cup after suffering a back injury.

According to reports, the French international will undergo detailed medical examinations this Monday (June 1) to determine the extent of the injury.

Initial concerns suggest he could be out for a long period, which would seriously jeopardize his participation in football’s biggest tournament.

An absence of Saliba would be a heavy blow for both the player and the French national team.

The “Roosters” are considered among the main favorites for the World Cup triumph and rely heavily on the qualities of the Arsenal defender in the defensive department led by Didier Deschamps.

Saliba had a brilliant season with Arsenal, playing in 50 of the team’s 63 matches in all competitions.

He was one of the key figures in the Gunners’ success in the Premier League, as well as in the path to the Champions League final, where the Londoners were defeated by PSG on penalties.

At the 2026 World Cup, France is in Group I along with Senegal, Iraq and Norway.

Saliba’s situation is expected to be clarified after the results of medical examinations in the coming days.
