Barcelona Make Surprising Decision on Marcus Rashford

News

According to reports from Spain, Barcelona have decided to return Marcus Rashford to Manchester United and do not plan to keep the English striker for next season.

The 28-year-old was available for around €30m as part of a loan deal with Barcelona, but the Catalan club are not willing to pay this figure to make the transfer permanent.

In place of Rashford, Barcelona have decided to sign England winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for around €81.9 million. According to reports from Marca , the decision was made based on Gordon’s superior defensive profile and the three-year age difference between the two players.

The Catalan club reportedly offered only around 15 million euros for Rashford, half the amount requested by Manchester United, an offer that was immediately rejected by the English club.

Rashford had a very good season in Spain, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists in just 26 appearances as a starter, helping Barcelona win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.

However, Barcelona already have several options available in the offensive department such as Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Ferran Torres and Fermin Lopez, which has influenced the decision not to keep the Englishman.

The player himself had expressed his desire to continue at Camp Nou, but the financial situation and the club’s plans have changed the direction of the project.

With this decision, Manchester United will be free to negotiate with other clubs, while Rashford remains one of the most sought-after names in the transfer window, with interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa, where he had previously played on loan.

To secure a permanent move away from Old Trafford, Rashford may be forced to accept a pay cut or negotiate a move away from United, having not played for his boyhood club since December 2024.
