Old Trafford club Manchester United have let go of two of the Premier League’s best midfielders due to high valuations from their respective teams.
According to the Manchester Evening News , Manchester United have cooled their interest in Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, focusing elsewhere in the transfer market.
While Tonali was previously linked with a potential move to Old Trafford, recent reports suggest he is no longer high on the club’s priority list, with attention shifting away from a deal. Newcastle are believed to value the Italian midfielder at over £100m.
It is also understood that United have backed away from a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, especially as interest from Manchester City increases the competition and potential costs. Forest are said to be demanding in excess of £120m for the England international.
Newcastle are in a strong financial position and are under no pressure to sell, having already secured significant revenue from player sales, including the £69m departure of Anthony Gordon.
There is also an expectation that United could prioritise strengthening at left-back, with Lewis Hall seen as a more realistic target in the summer transfer window.
With several positions under consideration, it is believed that it is unlikely that United will pursue both Tonali and Halli in the same transfer window.
