Manchester United believe Cristiano Ronaldo will make a transfer U-turn following the arrivals of Casemiro and Antony, according to reports.

The 37-year-old requested to leave Old Trafford in July, despite giving no earlier indication of his desire to exit, and his request was met with widespread celebration from his team-mates, who feel he has become a ‘pain in the a**e’.

Ronaldo scored 24 times in 38 matches last term but United’s performances suffered following his arrival from Juventus.

The striker wants to join a club in the Champions League and he was absent from United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia for ‘family reasons’.

But The Sun are now reporting that United believe Ronaldo will stay with Erik ten Hag’s side, with the transfer window set to close on Thursday.

Ronaldo is believed to be impressed with United’s recent transfer business, with the Red Devils signing Brazil international Casemiro from Real Madrid in a deal that could be worth up to £70m.

United have also confirmed a deal is in place for the signing of Antony from Ajax.

A move for the Brazil forward has been in the pipeline for the last few days – understood to be worth a fixed fee of £80.6million with a further £4.2m in add-ons – and United have now said the signing is set to go through.

The deal is dependent on a medical, player terms being finalised and international clearance, but United are bringing in a player who has 31 goals and 27 assists in 134 club appearances for Ajax and Sao Paulo, as well as two goals for Brazil.
