The highly anticipated boxing match between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul took place in Miami early Saturday morning, with the famous British heavyweight celebrating a decisive knockout victory.
Although many fans were skeptical ahead of the fight—especially since the event was promoted by Netflix—there was no controversy once the bout began.
From the opening bell, Joshua fought aggressively and showed no mercy. Paul managed to defend himself well in the early rounds, but in the fifth round he began to struggle. Joshua knocked him down twice in that round, making it clear that a knockout was imminent.
In the sixth round, the referee counted another knockdown against Paul. After the American got back to his feet and attempted to continue, Joshua unleashed a sharp combination, finishing it with a powerful right hand that sent Paul to the canvas for good.
Joshua thus fulfilled his pre-fight promise to knock out Paul. Boxing experts widely expected such an outcome, given Joshua’s clear advantages in size, power, and—most importantly—experience.
For Jake Paul, this was only his 14th professional fight and just his second against an active, “real” professional boxer. It also marked his second career loss, following his defeat to Tommy Fury.
Joshua, meanwhile, improves his professional record to 29 wins and 4 losses, with 26 of those victories coming by knockout.
