Ariana Grande reveals emotional acting method in Wicked to keep distance from personal pain

Ariana Grande has opened up about her emotional approach while filming Wicked, explaining that she intentionally created new emotional “triggers” for her character Glinda so she would not have to revisit her own personal pain.

Speaking in Variety’s Actors on Actors interview with Adam Sandler, the 32-year-old singer and actress said that although she cries easily in real life, tapping into those feelings during filming is not always simple.

“I invented triggers for Glinda because some of the themes in the film are very close to my real life. I had to build her pain so I did not have to return to mine,” Grande shared.

She also revealed that one of her costumes in Wicked: For Good left her with small scratches, but she chose not to complain, saying that “everything is worth it for the art.”

During the interview, Sandler jokingly teased her about the large lavender dress known as the “Bubble Two.” Grande explained that during breaks on set, she stood on a small rolling box to avoid damaging the delicate costume, according to the Daily Mail.

The two stars also posed for black-and-white photos and shared light-hearted memories from working with Ben Stiller, who, according to them, often caused accidental bruises during their collaborations.
