The Europa League first round match between Omonia and Sheriff has been abandoned.
The match was stopped midway through the second half after referee Rade Obrenovic of Slovenia was hit in the head with a bottle.
Allegedly, the bottle flew from the stands where Omonia’s most faithful fans are.
At the moment, the referee is being helped, and we will see if the match will continue.
At the break it was 0:2 for the guests from Moldova.
These are new unpleasant scenes on the European fields tonight, because earlier the fans of Nice and Cologne made a total mess in the stadium where there were also fans who were seriously injured.

There will be plenty of work for UEFA in the coming days.

It is not excluded that the Cypriot team will play the next home matches in front of empty stands or even outside Nicosia.

Omonia fans are known to be the most ferocious in Cyprus, but tonight they went one step further and must have earned their club a stiff punishment from UEFA
