Chelsea Want to Sign an Attacker & One Defender as the First Signings of The Xabi Alonso Era

News

Chelsea have begun plans to rebuild their squad under new manager Xabi Alonso, with club chiefs having already identified two key priorities for the summer transfer window.

According to reports from “The Athletic”, the Londoners aim to strengthen the defensive department with a high-level center-back, while in attack they are looking for a versatile player who can offer more alternatives in the offensive phase.

The club are considering several options for both positions and have reportedly identified three to four candidates for each role. However, the transfer window could be affected by developments surrounding the Club World Cup, which could delay the finalisation of some deals.

One of the names that is very popular at Stamford Bridge is Morgan Rogers. The Aston Villa star has had an incredible season and has become one of the most sought-after footballers in England. Chelsea, however, are not alone in the race, as Arsenal, Manchester United and PSG have also shown interest in him. Aston Villa are believed to be asking around £80 million for his card.

In defence, Chelsea have considered the possibility of signing Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool. The Frenchman has not renewed his contract with the Reds, but according to current reports, his most likely destination remains Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, there are also expected to be significant exits. Enzo Fernandez is valued at around £120m, while Marc Cucurella is being monitored by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Also, either Nicolas Jackson or Liam Delap could leave in the summer.

The list of players who could leave also includes Filip Jorgensen, Axel Disas, Tyrique George and David Datro Fofana, creating space in the squad and in the salary budget.

On the other hand, Chelsea will welcome some new reinforcements. Geovany Quenda and Mike Penders will officially join the team this summer, while Emmanuel Emegha will complete his transfer from Strasbourg.

With the arrival of Xabi Alonso on the bench, Chelsea aims to build a more competitive and balanced team, while the summer transfer market is expected to be crucial for the London club’s new project.
