Uzbekistan manager Fabio Cannavaro had nothing but praise for Cristiano Ronaldo after Portugal’s dominant win, warning just how dangerous he still is inside the box.
Cannavaro said defenders have to be extremely smart around Ronaldo because even the smallest mistake can be punished immediately.
The Italian, himself a World Cup winner, admitted Ronaldo remains one of the strongest players in football history and said his movement and finishing are still elite. Coming from a defender of Cannavaro’s level, it was a strong post-match reaction and one that added even more weight to Ronaldo’s performance.
After a week full of criticism, the comments from Cannavaro only added to the feeling that Ronaldo had completely flipped the narrative around himself in one night. Instead of more questions, the post-match conversation was now full of praise from both sides.
