As a potential replacement for De Gea, Sommer is mentioned, who will also soon enter the last six months of his contract with German Borussia Mönchengladbach, for which he has been defending since 2014.

Thus, United could use the opportunity to replace De Gea with Sommer, who will be free at that moment, and from January the Swiss goalkeeper could start negotiations with the English club, because Mönchengladbach will no longer wonder about his fate.
