Cameroon’s appearance at the World Cup in Qatar was marred by a scandal in which coach Rigobert Song sent off goalkeeper Andre Onanna, one of the national team’s biggest stars, before the second round. Onana was the first goalkeeper for Cameroon against Switzerland, and then he was sent off before the meeting with Serbia.

Now a video has surfaced of Song explaining to an unknown person at a table why he chased Onana. “I told Onana on the day of the match that I don’t want to work with him anymore. He started crying and I told him: “Son, I don’t have time for that, I have to prepare for the match. The day before the match I informed Samuel Eto’o of my decision,” he said and continued:

“I called Onana the night before the game, he didn’t come. He works individually in training, takes a lot of risks in matches. “I asked him to stop taking risks and he said he didn’t want to talk to me about it.”

Song later explained that the person he is talking to in the video, whose face is not visible, is his older brother. A “third person” joined his company and recorded the brothers’ conversation without their knowledge.

Onana, currently Inter’s first-choice goalkeeper, responded to Song on Twitter after the video emerged. “In a world where lying is the most common thing, telling the truth makes you a revolutionary.” But in the end, time will tell,” he wrote.
