Photos of the 64 year old actor quickly spread across social media, sparking strange speculation ranging from cosmetic surgery rumors to claims that the Hollywood star had been replaced by a clone.
The theories became so widespread that Carrey’s representative was forced to respond, telling DailyMail that the actor personally attended the ceremony and dismissing the claims as completely unfounded.
Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the Cesar Awards, also confirmed the authenticity of Carrey’s appearance, describing the moment as historic. He explained that the actor’s visit had been planned months in advance and that Carrey had spent eight months preparing his speech in French.
