Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho has recommended talented midfielder Mateus Fernandes as a potential reinforcement for Real Madrid, Spanish media report.
According to AS newspaper , Mourinho, who is increasingly linked with a possible return to the Madrid bench, has discussed the 21-year-old’s name during meetings with Florentino Perez.
The Portuguese coach believes that Fernandes would be an ideal solution for the midfield of “Los Blancos”, appreciating his potential and technical qualities.
The transfer of the Portuguese midfielder is considered more feasible than other names that have been on Real Madrid’s radar, such as Joao Neves or Vitinha.
However, West Ham, despite being relegated from the Premier League, are not expected to let the player leave for a low price.
The English club aims to profit around 80 million euros from his sale.
Mateus Fernandes is a product of the Sporting academy in Portugal.
During his career he has also played for Estoril and Southampton, while last season with West Ham he recorded 38 appearances in all competitions, contributing four goals and four assists.
His good performances have also secured his debut with the Portuguese national team, being considered one of the most promising midfielders of the new Portuguese generation.
