The Red Devils are extremely keen to add new players to their squad this month, particularly in their forward line after starting the season with Christian Eriksen up front in defeat to Brighton.
United decided former Stoke striker Marko Arnautovic was the man to solve the problem, but Bologna rejected a bid for the Austrian.
Now the Mirror reports they are considering an offer for Sarr, a player who they came close to signing two years ago and has long been linked with a move to a bigger club than the Hornets.
Still only 24 years old, Sarr moved to Vicarage Road from Rennes in 2019 and impressed in his debut season in the Premier League.
When Watford were relegated to the Championship he was linked with the likes of United and Liverpool, but stayed with the Hornets, scoring 13 league goals as they immediately returned to the top flight.
They were relegated again and Sarr has quickly caught the eye in the Championship again, scoring from inside his own half against West Brom on Monday night.
In an interview last year Watford’s ex-technical director, Filippo Giraldi, claimed United were close to reaching an agreement for the Senegal international back in 2020.
