Erik ten Hag was left frustrated with two of his men as Manchester United failed to score a goal and were held to a goalless draw by Newcastle.

The Red Devils managed just two of their 15 shots on goal as they were stymied defensively by the Magpies. Marcus Rashford made a positive impact from the bench after replacing a furious Cristiano Ronaldo in the second half.

But the Englishman and Fred wasted good scoring chances in the final minutes, which left Ten Hague fuming.

The Dutch coach admitted the Englishman “should have scored” as he lamented the loss of the two points, insisting his side should have emerged victorious.

“The performance was good, a clean sheet, we pressed well, controlled the game and at times we were good with the ball – especially in the second half,” Ten Hag told BBC Match of the Day. “After that, we dictated the game and in the end we could have – should have – scored the winning goal. One from Fred, and then Rashford had to score.”

“In the end, we could have won, we deserved the win, and it’s a huge compliment to the team that we deserved it with a physical performance against one of the most physical teams in the league. They (the Newcastle players) all had setbacks and we continued. The team understands from front to back we collaborate together. We are hard to beat and we have to continue like this”, added the coach of Manchester United.
