The Ballon d’Or will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a historic occasion, as the 2026 ceremony will take place for the first time in history in London on October 26.
Created by France Football in 1956, the award has been co-organised with UEFA since 2024.
The decision to host the event in the English capital is a tribute to Sir Stanley Matthews, the first Ballon d’Or winner, 70 years ago.
This move reflects the award’s continued global growth and its status as one of football’s most prestigious honours.
Attention will now turn to who will succeed 2025 winners Aitana Bonmati and Ousmane Dembele, while the 2026 World Cup is also on the horizon.
The most talked about and favorite names for the 2026 Ballon d’Or are Lamine Yamal, Micheal Olise, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane.
Further details regarding nominations and media accreditation will be announced in due course.
