A tour guide in Indonesia narrowly escaped a deadly encounter with a 6-meter-long python that had wrapped itself around his neck and was dragging him into the water.
Heru, an experienced snake hunter, was leading a group of tourists on an expedition along a river in a remote part of Borneo Island when the incident occurred.
The snake struck suddenly, catching him completely off guard. The dramatic moment, captured on video by members of the group, has since gone viral. The footage shows the python pulling Heru from the boat into the river, where he disappears beneath the surface for several seconds.
Within moments, the python coiled its massive body tightly around Heru’s torso and neck, attempting to suffocate him using its notorious constriction technique. At first, his companions did not seem to realize how serious the situation was and were slow to react.
It took two men — one holding the snake’s head and the other its tail — to finally free Heru from the python’s grip.
One member of the expedition, Mohammed Alisa, told reporters:
“It was the biggest and strongest python we have ever encountered. We released it afterward. Our principle is not to harm animals — the footage was recorded only for scientific purposes.”
Heru was extremely lucky to survive the ordeal without injuries, though he was visibly shaken after the terrifying experience.
