Two Conditions Not Met – Modric Expected to Leave AC Milan

News

Milan were knocked out of the Champions League after a 1:2 defeat to Cagliari at the San Siro in the final week of Serie A. Thanks to victories by Roma and Como, the Rossoneri fell to fifth place and will play in the Europa League next season.

Luka Modric came on in the 61st minute and Italian media are reporting that this could have been his last match with Milan.

The Croatian joined the club in the summer of 2025 as a free agent after leaving Real Madrid. At the age of 40, he made 37 appearances, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

According to Italian media, Modric’s main condition for staying was qualification for the Champions League, while the future of coach Massimiliano Allegri also remains unclear.

Journalist Nicolo Schira reported that the directors will discuss Allegri and the sporting project in the coming days, while Tuttomercato wrote that Milan is facing a “revolution” after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

In addition to Modric, directors Giorgio Furlani, Massimo Calvelli and Igli Tare are also in question, while tensions are reported within the club. Zlatan Ibrahimovic even left the stadium immediately after the defeat to Cagliari.

According to Tuttomercato, it would be a surprise if Modric stayed at San Siro. The Italian media adds that Rafael Leao, Christian Pulisic, Santiago Gimenez, Niclas Fullkrug, Christopher Nkunku and Mike Maignan could also leave during the summer.

Meanwhile, Modric is expected to lead Croatia as captain at the World Cup that starts on June 11, while it remains unclear whether he will continue his career or end active football.
