A treasure hunter, hampered by broken equipment, has found a gold nugget believed to be the largest ever found in England.

Richard Brock discovered the 64.8 gram gold nugget in the Shropshire Hills near the Welsh border, auction house Mullock Jones said.

A gold nugget is the size of a British 50p coin.

According to Shropshire-based auction house Mullock Jones, which is handling the sale, the find, dubbed “Hiro’s nugget,” is estimated to be worth 30,000 pounds ($38,000).

However, luck seemed to have eluded Brock, whose equipment almost failed him on the day of the dig.
When Brock arrived at the site in Shropshire he discovered his metal detector was damaged, according to a press release from Mullock Jones.

As his hopes dwindled, he turned to older equipment. At first he found only a coin of small value, but after five minutes he made the shocking discovery, the auction house announced.
