Nine years ago one of the most dramatic moments in English football history was produced in the second leg of the Championship play-off semi-final between Watford and Leicester City.
At the time the score was equal 2:2, where the last minutes of the match were underway, and the referee awarded a penalty in favor of Leicester, after Marco Cassetti obstructed Anthony Knockaert in the penalty area.
Watford were headed for defeat in the worst possible circumstances, with many believing the penalty awarded was undeserved, but that penalty produced one of football’s greatest events.
VlDEO OF THE SUPERGOAL
Knockaert misses his penalty, whereupon it all starts with goalkeeper Manuel Almunia launching a counter-attack for Watford, a counter-attack that later turned out to be historic.
Fernando Forestieri on the right side of the field arcs towards the Leicester penalty area, where goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel comes out of his goal to catch the ball, but fails in this attempt.
After Schmeichel’s failure, striker Troy Deeney scored the dramatic winner for Watford, thus securing the grand final at Wembley that would decide who will enter the Premier League.
