Antoine Griezmann will continue his career at Atletico Madrid. The confirmation came from Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, the club that owns the card of the French attacker. As the Spanish press reported a few days ago, the 31-year-old will continue to be under the orders of Diego Simeone until 2026.

“The agreed figure is 20 million euros fixed, plus 4 million as easily accessible bonuses. We were afraid that if we went to trial, the case would take a long time. If he were to return to Barcelona after the World Cup, we would be obliged to guarantee him another 36 million euros in wages.

We managed to avoid this risk, acting as always in the interest of the club”, declared the head of the Catalan club. Griezmann returned to the “Colchoneros” last summer after two less than positive seasons at the “Camp Nou”. Diego Simeone insisted on the striker’s stay in the Spanish capital.

Griezmann had the same desire. He reduced the seasonal salary of 18 million euros a year, as he has agreed to make another economic effort (30%) to sign with Atletico Madrid.

Atletico executives insisted that their Barcelona counterparts lower their €40 million (if he played 50% of the matches) clause on the world champion, and the final deal has been reached for €20+4 million according to Laporta.
