A Romanian court has sentenced Wiz Khalifa to nine months in prison for consuming cannabis on stage.

The American rapper, whose real name is Thomaz Cameron Jibril, admitted to smoking a joint during his performance at the Beach, Please! festival last year in Costinești.

A Romanian appeals court overturned an earlier fine of $829 for drug possession and ruled that the rapper must serve a prison sentence instead. However, the sentence was issued in absentia, and it is unclear whether Jibril is currently in Romania. He was last seen on Tuesday performing with Gunna in California.

Police briefly detained and questioned Jibril after the concert on July 13, 2024, and prosecutors later charged him with possession of “dangerous drugs” for personal use.

Romanian investigators stated that he had more than 18 grams of cannabis in his possession and had consumed an additional amount on stage.

In the written ruling, judges of the Constanța Court of Appeal said they overturned the initial fine because the artist had sent “a message of normalizing illegal behavior,” thereby encouraging “drug use among young people.”
