The Netherlands international has been in the thick of transfer rumours all through the summer with Manchester United and then Chelsea showing a strong interest in securing his services from Barça.

The Blaugrana, for their part, were open to sanctioning a departure as they thought his exit would be the best way for them to generate funds and achieve financial fair play, which would help them register new signings and even move for Bernardo Silva.

However, despite the interest and the efforts from Barcelona to move him on, de Jong stayed firm on his stance that he did want to leave the club this summer.

The 25-year-old and his partner feel well-settled in the city of Barcelona while the midfielder is also keen on achieving success with the Catalan giants after having failed to win many trophies in his first three seasons at the club.

On top of that, Chelsea never really made a concrete approach despite being interested while Manchester United could not offer him Champions League football.

So, given all factors, de Jong decided that he wants to continue at Spotify Camp Nou and be a part of the team that can go places under Xavi Hernandez’s tutelage.

The former AFC Ajax ace has been put under pressure, with his contract details being leaked and him being dropped to the bench by the manager in two of the three La Liga games so far.

Despite everything, though, de Jong’s resolve on the matter has not wavered. The midfielder intends to remain a Barcelona player and achieve greatness at the club after three sub-par seasons in Catalonia.

With the player’s insistence and the very little time left in the transfer window, the Blaugrana have accepted that de Jong will be going nowhere.

Instead, the club are now working to part ways with five other players, including midfielder Miralem Pjanic to make room for any new signings.
