Netherlands international Xavi Simons has confirmed the shocking news that he will miss the 2026 World Cup due to a serious knee injury.

The 23-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder suffered the injury during a recent 1-0 Premier League win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, bringing his season to a premature end.

In an emotional statement, Simons expressed shock at the sudden end of his season.

“They say life can be cruel and today I feel that way. My season has ended abruptly and I’m trying to accept it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of this makes sense.”

The midfielder stressed that his main motivation was to fight for both the club and his place on the world stage this summer, but despite the setback, he vowed to remain close to the team and be the best possible support from the bench.

“I will walk this path now, guided by faith, with strength, with endurance, with conviction, as I count the days to get back there. Be patient with me,” Simons added.
