The Spanish royal club announced on Tuesday afternoon that president Florentino Perez would appear at a press conference at 6:00 p.m., following a meeting of the board of directors, without clarifying the topic of the appearance in advance.
At the conference, Perez dismissed rumors of resignation and announced that he had called new elections at the club, three years earlier than his current term, which was due to last until 2029, was due to expire.
“I will not resign, I am calling elections. There are campaigns against me. But I am still here and I am president. People said I have cancer, this is completely made up. I am not tired,” he stressed.
The Real Madrid president also attacked media reports, specifically mentioning ABC, while demanding to know if the journalist who wrote the article was present in the room.
“I’ll tell you now what they told me a few minutes ago. ABC wrote that I’m tired… how can you say that? Is this journalist here?” Perez said.
He insisted that he continues to work with high intensity and that he has no intention of retiring.
“I work day and night like an animal. With me as president, we have won 76 titles. Maybe I should remind you. Yes, this year we have not won anything, but don’t forget,” he declared.
Along the same lines, he announced that the current board, with him at the helm, will run in these elections, while harshly addressing critics.
“I am calling for new elections for the board, and this board, with me at the helm, will run in these elections. Anyone who is criticizing us and spreading these rumors about me can run against me in these elections. Whoever wants to run, let them run. Stop acting from behind,” Perez said.
He denied rumors that the situation at the club is out of control, insisting that a false narrative of crisis and chaos within Real Madrid is being spread.

“I’m the first one who wants to win it all. With me as president, we’ve won 37 titles in football and 29 in basketball. I want to talk about all these people who are campaigning behind the scenes.”
