The legendary Scotsman will be given the role of all things adviser at the club he made famous, making his first official return to United since leaving in 2013.
Until then, he was a manager for 27 consecutive years and during that period he won as many as 38 trophies, including 13 Premier Leagues and two Champions Leagues.
On Thursday, Ferguson held talks with club officials, just as Cristiano Ronaldo did over his stay.
It is even speculated that he played a crucial role in convincing the Portuguese to stay with the Red Devils.
