The administration of US President Donald Trump expects the Iranian national team to participate in the upcoming World Cup, according to statements by Andrew Giuliani, administration representative and Executive Director of the White House World Cup Task Force.
In an interview with Politico , Giuliani stressed that, while he cannot speak on behalf of the Iranian Football Federation, signals from the US administration and FIFA indicate that the Iranian team is expected to be part of the tournament.
“I can’t speak for the Iranian national team, but I can say that the president, when I spoke to him, invited the Iranian team to come here. The FIFA president also stated yesterday that they will participate. So we are waiting for them,” Giuliani said.
He also added that preparations are being made for the team’s arrival and accommodation, noting that their matches are scheduled to take place in several American cities.
“We expect them to be in Tucson in early June, and then play in Los Angeles and Seattle,” he said.
The statements come at a time when the organization of the tournament is entering its final stages, while attention is focused on the participation of all qualified national teams and the logistics of holding matches in the United States.
