Liverpool have reached an agreement with Benfica to sign playmaker Enzo Fernandez in June 2023, according to reports from Argentina.
The midfielder, who moved to Portuguese giants River Plata last summer, impressed for Lionel Scaloni’s side during the previous World Cup in Qatar.
Enzo was linked with English teams, primarily Manchester United and Liverpool, and in the end the “reds” won that race.
The young 21-year-old scored a fine goal against Mexico in the group stage in Qatar. This season, he played all the matches in the Portuguese Premier League, where his team leads the table with 37 points (12 wins and a draw). He also played every game in the Champions League and won the knockout stage with the club.
Although he only played three friendlies for Argentina before going to the World Cup, he is one of the key players for the Gauchos in Qatar. He first started as a reserve player, and lately he has also been playing in the first team.
He arrived in Benfica from River for 10 million euros in the middle of the year, but at the end of the season he will go to Liverpool.
His departure from Benfica was reported by Portuguese newspaper Record, who after all first reported the transfer of Darin Nunez from Benfica to Liverpool last summer.
The Argentine, who was also wanted by Real Madrid, has a contract with Benfica and a compensation clause of 120 million euros.
If Liverpool paid the clause of 120 million, his former club River after the transfer of the midfielder would receive 30 million euros, because during his sale they insisted on 25 percent of the next transfer.
This season he played a total of 22 games for Befica and scored three goals with five assists. And then the Reds liked him, especially after his recent performances at the World Cup.
