Real Madrid are expected to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new coach this summer, once the elections are over. President Florentino Perez has pushed for the move and is the favourite to beat Enrique Riquelme to another term. Once that happens, Mourinho’s signing will become official.
However, by all accounts, Mourinho has begun work on rebuilding Real Madrid next season. While most managers at the Santiago Bernabeu have had a limited input into transfers, one of the conditions the Portuguese coach imposed on his return was that he would have the right to speak on transfers.
According to Diario AS , Real Madrid have received a document from Mourinho detailing his transfer market desires. Despite numerous links to various players in recent weeks, the document did not contain specific names, but positions that he would like to see strengthened.
“The Special One” is looking for a minimum of four signings according to him, and with a maximum that would go up to six new signings this summer.
The three positions he wants to consider are full-back, centre-back and central midfielder. Mourinho wants to sign one or two full-backs to strengthen the position, and one or two centre-backs.
In midfield, his desires are more specific, seeking a defensive-minded player to compete with Aurelien Tchouameni, and a more creative central midfielder, something he feels Real Madrid currently lacks.
The question mark is perhaps how much money Los Blancos will spend. Last summer, spending €160m on four players was a rare summer of activity for Los Blancos in recent years.
While players like Jude Bellingham have arrived for big money, and Kylian Mbappe for a high salary, it has been some time since Los Blancos approved the signing of more than one genuine star in the same summer.
