Reports from Italy suggest that Nico Gonzalez, who is owned by Juventus, has reached an agreement to continue with Atletico Madrid through the 2026/27 season.
Nico Gonzalez spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Madrid. Atletico had agreed to pay Juventus €1m (which could rise to €2m with bonuses) for the Argentine’s loan, while the deal also included a €32m buyout clause.
However, this clause can no longer be activated. According to reports, Atletico would be obliged to permanently buy Nico Gonzalez if he played 45 minutes or more in 60% of the LaLiga matches in which he was available during the 2025/26 season.
Since in the first three matches of the 2025/26 season, Nico Gonzalez was still a Juventus player, he would have to play 45 minutes or more in 21 league matches to reach the 60% threshold.
Although he has featured in 24 LaLiga matches this season, he has only played 45 minutes or more in 16 of them. With just two games remaining in the season, the player is not expected to feature, having missed the last three games due to a muscle injury.
According to Tuttosport, Atletico and Simeone want to keep the player after the end of the loan, but not for the €32m fee that was expected last summer. Other reports add that the player’s deal would run until the summer of 2031.
Tuttosport claims that an agreement already exists between the player’s circle and Atletico’s camp, while Juventus are also ready to negotiate the sale – as soon as possible. The reason is financial: Juventus must secure funds before June 30 to avoid punishment from UEFA.
Juventus know they need to collect over €20m to avoid a capital loss on Nico Gonzalez. Reports on Saturday said Atletico would not pay more than €30m for a winger who has just turned 28, but there is optimism that the parties can find a compromise for a sum of around €25m.
