Gianluca Rocchi has stepped down from his role as referee supervisor in Serie A and Serie B after being investigated for alleged sports fraud.
The development comes after an official announcement by prosecutors in Milan, causing numerous reactions and controversies in Italian football.
Rocchi, who was responsible for managing the appointments of judges through the Italian Association of Judges, has decided to temporarily suspend himself from duty until the investigations are concluded.
According to CalcioMercato reports, the decision was taken in coordination with the Italian Referees Association and prior to a review by its national committee.
In a brief reaction, Rocchi said: “I am convinced that I will come out clean and stronger than before.”
His withdrawal aims to preserve the integrity of the arbitration system, allowing the relevant institutions to conduct investigations without external influences or pressures.
The case remains pending, with new developments expected in the coming weeks.
