Brazilian midfielder Ederson has experienced one of the most unusual call-ups of his career, having been unexpectedly included in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad following a forced change in the squad due to Wesley’s injury.
Initially left out of the list by coach Carlo Ancelotti, Ederson received the news of the call-up while in Campo Grande, where he was attending the wedding celebrations of his friend, midfielder Romulo Zvarc.
The situation was further complicated when it was discovered that the player did not have his passport with him, having left it in Rio de Janeiro.
To solve the problem, his friends immediately set out to get the document and send it to Sao Paulo, from where he was scheduled to depart for the United States for the national team training camp.
Meanwhile, his wife quickly packed her suitcase with personal belongings, while the player left the party and headed to Sao Paulo to catch his flight.
A series of unexpected events turned his recruitment into a “last-minute adventure”, but with a happy ending for the midfielder, who is now part of Brazil’s list for the 2026 World Cup.
