Michael Olise brought about a viral moment during the interview after Bayern Munich’s dramatic victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The French striker appeared surprised when a journalist referred to the Spanish giants as the “kings of the competition”, just moments after they were eliminated at the Allianz Arena.
After a 4-3 victory in the second leg and a 6-4 triumph on aggregate, Oliseh was not inclined to pay homage to his Spanish opponents.
When the journalist suggested that Bayern had just eliminated the “king of the competition”, the former Crystal Palace player smiled and gave a short response that has gone viral.
He simply repeated the phrase in a questioning tone: “King of the competition?”
The conversation became even more awkward when the journalist attempted to justify the tag by reminding Olise that Real Madrid have won the trophy a record 15 times.
Unhappy with this “history lesson”, the French winger replied curtly: “Yes. Yes.” and ended the interview.
Although the history and success of “Los Blancos” is indisputable, Olise and his teammates showed on the pitch that past trophies have little importance when the match starts.
