Real Madrid are currently holding concrete talks with former star Toni Kroos regarding a possible return of the German World Cup winner to the club.
According to The Athletic, Kroos will not return to the pitch as a player. The 36-year-old retired after the 2024 European Championship, having repeatedly stressed that his decision was final.
Since the 36-year-old hung up his boots, Los Blancos have been trophyless under Carlo Ancelotti in the 2024/25 season, and the same scenario now threatens them in the current edition, despite the efforts of coaches Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa.
Real Madrid are considering a “Zinedine Zidane-style” path for Kroos. After retiring, the French legend joined the club and became a great coach, winning the Champions League in each of his two terms at the Bernabeu.
“Kroos could start in an advisory role similar to the Frenchman and also represent the club at official events,” the outlet writes.
A position within the first team’s inner circle is also considered possible, as is a future move to coaching, following Zidane’s own path.
Mourinho breaks silence and talks about a possible move to Real Madrid
It is said that Real Madrid values Kroos’ experience and expertise so much that they do not want to “let him go”.
While Santiago Solari currently holds the title of director of football at the club, scouting chief Juni Calafat and chief Jose Angel Sanchez, who brief president Florentino Perez on key transfers, enjoy far greater influence over strategic decisions.
Consequently, Kroos, if an agreement is reached, could have a significant role and influence in this area as well.
